Chinese New Year Celebration in Uruguay

On February 11 and 12, the arrival of the Year of the Tiger was celebrated in Montevideo-Uruguay. The activities were organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Uruguay, the Embassy of the P.R. of China, and the Museum of Migrations. They also had the support of the Association of Chinese People in Uruguay and the Chinese Union in Uruguay. During the two days of festivities, there were different events to promote Chinese culture: workshops, activities for children, traditional dances, music, games, meals, and of course martial arts demonstrations from some schools.

Yang Yata (Ramon Suarez)  杨雅塔 and Yang Yapan (Ricardo Suarez)杨雅盼 participated demonstrating the Traditional Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Hand Form.

Happy Year of the Tiger

Many of our members of the Yang Family Tai Chi School of Greater Seattle enjoyed gathering together to celebrate the new year with tai chi and friendship following the long separation imposed by the pandemic. The reunion of friends from the four branches of the YMCA of Greater Seattle where our classes are held brought happiness to us all!

First, we tested our knowledge of tai chi theory, history, and philosophy for points and prizes. Then we were treated to a performance of the Senior Form by members of our demo team.  Finally, we practiced the Traditional Hand Form together with the more experienced members leading the way for their newer classmates.

We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the Yang family!  Sharing their great work with us all has strengthened our minds, spirits, and bodies, especially during this challenging time. We are also thankful for the support of the YMCA of Greater Seattle for the opportunity to share tai chi with our communities. Red envelopes were donated to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign to support our community members facing challenges. I greatly appreciate the generosity of our school members.

We wish good health, good fortune, and the best of times to Master Yang Jun and Master Fang Hong and all of you with whom we share tai chi!

YFTC School in Argentina Reopens

Rubén Coirini, Director of the Wu De School of Tai Chi Chuan in Rosario, Argentina, is happy to report that he is reopening his school after closing for 22 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although their group is small and practices wearing masks, it is still great to have the school open with in-person classes. This March, Rubén will also resume the instructors’ course that he had to cancel in 2020.
