Cheryl Cliney

Associate Instructor

Cheryl began her martial arts training in 2005 in Philadelphia, PA studying Tai Chi, Baguazhang, Kung fu and Yoga. In 2006, she had the honor of attending her first seminar with Master Yang and began focusing her studies on Yang family style Tai Chi. Cheryl has attended many seminars with Master Yang that included the 103 form, the essential form, sword, saber, and push hands. In 2008, Cheryl had the honor of hosting a seminar with Master Yang at her Dojo in Philadelphia. 

Cheryl began teaching in 2007 in Philadelphia and has expanded her classes to Puerto Rico and Florida. Currently she is teaching in Seattle, WA and on Zoom with the Seattle Yang Chengfu Center. Cheryl is ranked with the association and obtained her Associate Instructor level in 2020. She is grateful to be a part of the association, to continue learning from Master Yang, and be surrounded by such incredible instructors.

Cheryl is also a Yoga Alliance certified instructor. Her yoga practice and teachings focus on principles of alignment to heal the body. She teaches a variety of classes that build heat to purify the body, hold postures to release the muscles and energy, or a bit of both. Cheryl is certified to teach Yin, Vinyasa and Rocket/Ashtanga Yoga. 

When she isn’t practicing Tai Chi or Yoga, you can find her out on the water surfing. During the work week she is running her own business an upholsterer and seamstress. Cheryl is a true artist, always looking to create something beautiful, and help people live their best life.
