Annual Directors & Instructors Seminar - Bothell, WA USA

The annual directors and instructors' seminar was held from February 2 – 6, 2023 with the annual meeting on February 4. This was the first time in four years that directors and instructors have come together in person to learn, practice, and enjoy each other’s company.

The seminar focused entirely on push hands with Master Yang going over the progression of teaching the discipline. It was an intensive 4½ days covering everything from basic one-hand circles to dalu (big rollback).

At the meeting on February 4, each department head reported on their activities since 2019 and their goals for the new year. In his report, Master Yang Jun reflected on the past 20 years of the association from the early and challenging first days to the established organization we have today and how much has been accomplished together. Although his attention in the coming years will be to build up Yang Family Tai Chi in China, he will continue to connect with the greater Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan family by giving seminars around the world.

Master Yang also announced the recipients of the association’s first dragon ranks. He was also able to personally present Pat, Han, and Bill with their certificates and pins. Congratulations to the following members for achieving Dragon ranking!

Copper Dragon: Andy Lee, Angela Soci, Bill Walsh, Claudio Mingarini, and Ray Tom
Silver Dragon: Han Hoong Wang and Pat Rice

Han Hoong Wang: Silver Dragon

Pat Rice: Silver Dragon

Bill Walsh: Copper Dragon

The meeting ended with everyone participating in a Chinese New Year Celebration dance produced, directed and choreographed by Bill Walsh (see video) followed by a pizza party.

Volunteer Opportunities

Yang Family Tai Chi depends on volunteers who donate their time and talent to make our association a success. We currently need more volunteers to help our association as we move forward into the future. We have an immediate need for people with skills such as website updating and management, writing, translating, video editing, social media, and assisting our department heads and executive with various tasks. We also welcome volunteers in other areas.

Do you have any skills or knowledge you would like to share? If you would like to volunteer but aren't sure how you can help, please just send an email telling us you would like to help in some way and we will suggest some ways you could volunteer.

We are very grateful to all our volunteers who have helped make our association and its events successful. Building a strong group of new volunteers will help us improve our service to our members and also reach more people around the world! Please contact Pam Boyde (pamboyde@yangfamilytaichi.com) if you would like to volunteer.
