Dr. Raymond Tom

Director Emeritus, Academy Instructor

Dr. Raymond Tom studied Tai Chi Chuan with Master Bihn Ly for 15 years from 1983 to 1998 in Stockton’s Confucius Church.

Dr. Tom has been a teacher of Tai Chi Chuan for over 20 years. Besides teaching classes at Stockton’s Confucius Church, Dr. Tom teaches classes or has taught for the University of the Pacific, San Joaquin Delta College, and Kaiser Permanente.

In 1998, Dr. Tom had the good fortune of taking his first seminar with Grandmaster Yang Zhenduo and Master Yang Jun at Pat Rice’s A Taste of China in Winchester, Virginia.

In 2001, Dr. Tom applied to become a Director of a Yang Chengfu Tai Chi Chuan Center. His application was approved April 2002

In 2002, Ray Tom, competed in the 2nd International Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Tournament in Taiyun, China and earned the 5th Rank of the Silver Tiger.

For the past 9 years, Dr. Tom has attended many seminars including Director’s seminars in Seattle and Rome. He also participated in the 80th birthday celebration for Grandmaster Yang Zhenduo in 2005 in Taiyun, China.

In 2006, Dr. Tom retired as the Center Director of Stockton’s Yang Chengfu Center. Master Yang Jun, President of the International Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Association granted Dr. Tom the title and privilege of Director Emeritus. Though, Dr. Tom is retired from being a Director, he continues to teach and support the activities of the Center and the International Association.
